General Advice - Scotland and Northern Ireland

About this section

Residents in Scotland can access general advice from the following websites:

  • Citizens Advice Scotland: Access free information from the independent charity online, or visit one of its many local bureaus, which are located across the country.
  • The Law Society of Scotland: Use the society's online search tool to find law firms and solicitors in your region.
  • Scottish Legal Aid Board: The body responsible for managing legal aid in Scotland.
  • Scotrights.org: Details basic consumer rights on subjects such as domestic violence, criminal law, human rights, and social work.

Individuals living in Northern Ireland should visit these websites:

  • Citizens Advice: The independent charity has 22 bureaux in Northern Ireland. Each offers free advice to consumers on legal issues, employment and financial matters - including debt and benefits. Find your local office here.
  • The Law Society of Northern Ireland: A membership group for solicitors in Northern Ireland.
  • Free Legal Advice Centres: FLAC is an independent human rights organisation dedicated to the realisation of equal access to justice for all. To this end it campaigns on a range of legal issues but also offers some basic, free legal services to the public.
